Piercing
Care Instructions
Do
not touch your piercing unless your hands are clean.
Unwashed hands carry bacteria and your piercing is a point where these
bacteria can penetrate below your skin and cause infection.
While healing, your
piercing will need to be cleaned 2 times a day - while showering is ideal.
We suggest to use an antibacterial soap.
-
Wash your hands with antibacterial soap
-
Wet the piercing with plain water.
-
Use a few drops of antibacterial soap on your fingers and work
into a lather. Then apply to
piercing.
-
Try to loosen any crusted discharge and float it off the
jewelry and your skin.
-
Leave the antibacterial soap on the piercing for 1 minute
while rotating the jewelry. Allowing the disinfectant to penetrate the
piercing.
-
Rinse thoroughly with water and air dry thoroughly.
-
When
shampooing make sure that the soap is completely rinsed from the piercing.
Cover the pierced area when using spray cologne, hair spray,
hair dye, or make-up .
-
Some
people like to use a sea-salt solution on their piercings.
Leave initial
jewelry in for 6 to 8 weeks (minimum) depending on the piercing.
For the first six months, do not go without wearing jewelry, otherwise
the hole could begin to close. This
will assure that the newly pierced hole will be formed properly.
If after the 6 to 8 week healing time the piercing feels sore when
changing jewelry, go back to initial jewelry and continue these instructions for
an additional 1 or 2 weeks. If you
have any questions as to whether to change your jewelry - contact your piercer.
After the 6 to 8
week training period, other jewelry may be worn. If piercing is healing with no problems!
These should be made of Surgical Steel, Gold, or Titanium.
No heavy Rings
should be worn for at least 6 months. Sterling
Silver is not recommended except for ear lobes, and nostril.
Pain, redness,
swelling, are not normal results. This
condition could indicate an allergic reaction to the jewelry, or that your body
cannot tolerate a foreign object in the skin.
If you gave any questions - please contact your piercer.
They can answer your questions directly.
Sea
Salt Soaks
Mild sea salt water soaks are another method of cleaning your piercing that can
be used at least once a day to accelerate healing and increase your comfort.
This may also help to reduce irritation in the area. Dissolve a pinch (1/4
teaspoon) of non-iodized sea salt into one cup (8 oz.) of warm or hot water in a
clean cup. Distilled water is optimal. A stronger solution is not better as you
can burn your piercing with too much salt. Invert it over the area to form a
vacuum and soak directly for a few minutes. For certain placements it is easier
to use a clean gauze pad soaked in the salt water and applied to the pierced
area. Follow with a clear water rinse or splash then pat dry with paper
products.
Salt water soaks help to stimulate air and blood circulation, which facilitates
healing. You can do a brief salt-water soak before your daily cleaning(s).
It is particularly advisable to soak before you do anything active, as it will
prevent crust from being pulled inside the piercing as you move around.
One soak per day should be for at least a few minutes. Additional soaks can be
brief (1 minute or so) and still be effective for soothing the area and removing
matter. |
